I’ve been thinking a lot about trust these days. There are so many secrets.
Imagine all the things people don’t admit, even to themselves. Think of the words you wanted to say to a friend but didn’t. You may be hiding something, worried people will think less of you. Or you may be shy, or scared to speak your love out loud.
Sometimes it’s easier to share with friends. That got me wondering.
What would happen if we each contributed one line in a poetry collaboration?
I’ll give you the prompt, collect your lines, and meld them into a poetic creation.
Here goes.
With the prompt “Unspoken Words,” write a single line for our collaboration.
You might express your regret or share your words with hope for the future. It could be a gentle thought or a regret.
Keep your line general or symbolic.
Metaphors are welcome. Be mystical and mysterious. It’s better if we don’t get 10 lines with the word “Unspoken Words, or Secrets”.
This is a free-verse poem.
One line per poet. Please keep it under 10 syllables. Shorter is fine.
Put your contribution in the comments below.
It’s helpful if you read the comments that come before yours, to get a sense of where you might take the poem. Your lines can respond to someone else’s, or add a new perspective. You can take the idea in a surprising direction.
Let's watch the magic unfold, one line at a time.
This collaboration will be open for about a week or until activity slows to a stop. I’ll make some minor edits and post the poem when it’s complete, so stay tuned.
Thank you all for participating.
You blame the moon when you were the one who taught her about magic.
You left too soon I had more to say
