It’s hard to watch. Rich people keep getting richer, and you’re struggling to make ends meet.
Rent should be cheaper, and it’s annoying to have to pay so much for gas. Student loans should be free. And we shouldn’t have to pay so much in taxes, right? ……..
Life can seem unfair.
You are the main reason your life sucks
We live in a society where the main game is capitalism.
If you want to succeed, figure out the rules. If you want to win, you have to know how to play the game. Or how to break the rules in ways that reinvent the game.
Your circumstances and choices have a huge impact on your life.
It’s true that there are systemic problems in our society. It’s also true that there are basic inequalities that can make life difficult. But it‘s too easy to blame your struggles on rich people.
Rich people aren’t the problem
They were born into this society of capitalism, just as you were.
Not all rich people were born into rich families. There are many rags-to-riches stories in our history.
Blaming others for your circumstances can lead to a sense of helplessness and that will definitely slow you down.
Capitalism is a human invention
“When capitalism was invented, the brightest scientific human minds believed, not just that the Earth was flat, but that the Earth was the center of the universe.
They believe the sun revolved around the Earth, that brown-skinned people were inferior, that female sexual desire was a mental illness.” Ray Flemings, a professional fixer for rich people
Look for opportunities
Every person is responsible for their choices. If you want things to improve, you have to make better decisions. Decide you want a better life and take some concrete steps toward improving your situation.
Work on personal growth by getting rid of your bad habits. Watching endless videos of buff fitness trainers on TikTok isn’t going to help you.
Read books and articles that add knowledge. Stop doom-scrolling and consuming crap media.
Find a ‘how-to’ book and learn a skill. Then go out and practice the skill in the real world.
Lots of things influence your personal circumstances. Your ability to get a good education is one. Nurturing a solid support network will also make a difference.
Instead of blaming rich people, look for learning opportunities.
Rich people can be the solution
It’s hard to imagine having more money than you can spend. That’s what eventually happens as you become more wealthy.
You satisfy your basic needs for food, shelter, and comfort. Then you take care of your family and friends. You expand your business and build your empire. Eventually, it becomes harder to find things to spend money on.
There’s a point where you have all the money you’ll ever need. The question becomes, ‘What to do with all the extra money I have?’
Many wealthy people contribute to society through philanthropy. They invest in businesses that create jobs. They might contribute to research and development in areas that will improve lives. They can have a positive impact on communities, creating opportunities and improving living conditions for others.
But sometimes it’s hard to know how to get the best bang for their buck.
Rich people need help too
We think money will solve all our problems, but if you ask anyone who has a lot of money, they’ll tell you how wrong you are. Money helps, that’s for sure, but there are some things you can’t buy.
If you had all the money in the world, how would you spend it to improve the world? It’s not easy to know where to begin.
There are lots of people that will ‘help’ you. They might have questionable motives.
When you have a lot of money, more people try to rip you off. If you have a trusted advisor or friends you can rely on, it’s easier to spend your money wisely.
Rich people are lonely
Imagine what it would be like to have zero friends. You might be surrounded by people who want to be your friends, but they’re in it for the money. You would never be sure that someone ‘likes you for you’. It’s a big problem when you can’t be sure of your support network.
Trust is a big issue. That’s why many rich people hang around with other rich people. At least you know other rich people are less likely to be trying to scam you or steal your wealth.
Capitalism isn’t the problem
Capitalism is an economic system that’s used in various forms around the world. It’s a tool we invented and most people in the world follow its rules.
It promotes economic growth because you’re rewarded for growth.
Efficiency is improved, because capitalism gives markets and people an incentive to be productive.
Individuals are free to pursue goals or do what they want to do to fulfill their needs.
Downsides of capitalism
It allows wealth to become concentrated in the hands of some individuals or entities. That creates inequity in society.
Regulations are needed to protect the environment. Capitalism can encourage the exploitation of workers.
Relying on free markets sometimes backfires.
Ways to improve capitalism
Focus on the three downsides:
Reduce inequities by supporting job opportunities and education for underserved people in your community.
When people see the rich getting richer while others struggle to make ends meet, it can lead to negative feelings toward wealthy individuals. When someone makes an investment to support others, it’s important to shine a light on them.
Avoid generalizations that paint all rich people with the same brush. Not all rich people add to societal problems. Many want to help but they don’t know how to approach the problems.
Promote better understanding to help build empathy. When people from different backgrounds listen to each other, they can work toward solutions that work to improve life in the community.
Protect the environment by advocating for better policies.
Measure success using ESG (environmental & social governance) instead of just GDP (gross domestic profit).
Avoid creating scapegoats.
Your situation is something you’ve created. It is good to look for ways to make things more fair, but it’s important to keep your perspective. The world doesn’t owe you anything.
Don’t lay blame on any group, including the rich. By focusing on personal growth and fostering collaboration, you can improve your life and work toward a better society.
And that’s a solution we can all embrace.
