In 2023 I traveled to Malaysia for the first time.
I’ve been to many different Asian countries and have always been interested in exploring Malaysia. I knew I could adapt to a new culture because of my experiences, but I felt a bit anxious about this trip.
Malaysia is home to a large community of Muslim people and that was my main concern. I had no idea what to expect.
I knew my fear was based on what I saw and heard in the news in the West. We’re told Muslim people are violent fanatics and they lack tolerance. I was uneasy because I’m a woman. I didn’t know how I would be treated.
