When Things Change And Weak Ties Are Strengthened
Shared joy is double joy. Shared sorrow is half sorrow.
In a blink
your days of peace
turn to days of war.
Gone are dream days
we reach for joy no more.
It is time to fight
to survive.
The helpers arrive
in bursts of light
as family moves
close in.
We circle wagons
as friends wield
the weapon of food.
Their love
shines through.
Instead of asking
what you need
they ask
if you are home.
They light
the signal fires
and send
reinforcements
for small
and larger things.
Support builds
in increments.
Darkness recedes.
When sorrow is deep
the love is more profound.
Your outer circle
shifts within
and those who
know you lightly
step up to the fight.
Though fear exists
it’s carried
by more hands
than before
and there’s
a smaller hole
in our hearts.
“Shared joy is double joy. Shared sorrow is half sorrow.” An old Swedish proverb
