It's kind of odd that the legislation favors the tenant and not the landlord. I thought it was the reverse.

I used to watch episodes of the old Abbott and Costello TV show. On the show, they lived in a rooming house where the landlord would physically assault and verbally attack Costello whenever he felt like it. (Granted, they were always behind in paying him rent...) I know it was meant to be played for laughs, but I always wondered: "Could he get away with that now?"

Reading your case, I would have to conclude: no.

Tenants rights have been getting stronger year by year and there are some pretty bad landlords out there too. The scales have tipped toward the tenants where I live on the west coast.

Ugh what a nightmare. I'm not sure if you've ever watched the series, Worst Roommate Ever. It was soooo bad and in America the landlord's rights are almost non-existent.

There are several documentaries about terrible tenants. Scary out there.

I haven't watched it. No TV here. It sounds like a fascinating series, though.

Yes, it's scary out there. Now that time has passed and there's a bit of space between us, I'm left with interesting character sketches and short stories that sound made-up to the uninitiated. It was both a return to renting experiences from my younger days and a glimpse into the reality of some people's lives

My job is to assist evicted tenants move to a new apartment (that they find)......nothing in this story surprised me. ALWAYS go back 2-3 landlords for references AND check their Facebook page/other social media sites 😉😉PS: same holds true for civil service employees seeking a promotion 😉

Yes, you're right about that. I learned the lessons the hard way.
