I'm more of a noodle brain. I'm not sure my pasta strands connect with anything; just get into a right tangle.

Noodle brain! That's a great insight into your creative process. Lots going on at once! I love how you are deconstructing your writing process. So interesting.

Well, you know, I didn’t go into that level of detail when I was writing it. I think the analysis is longer than the story. I remembered some details and put them in straight and I modified others to suit the story and I flat-out lied for some of it.

But I thought about structure and characters while I was writing. I had the most fun with dialogue and little pieces of what an actor would call “business”. I might talk about Aaron Sorkin one day who says that lines of dialogue must work like music so they flow and harmonise.

Sometimes I get into a flow state and these little pieces come to me as I’m writing them. My subconscious knows where the train is going and puts together the next bit of track and scenery for me as I need it. If I like it, I use it, and if it doesn’t fit I stop and think about it until it does.

I would love to have a nothing box. I'd enjoy doing nothing and not thinking about it!

Me too! But my husband says most women wouldn't be able to leave the nothing box alone for long. He thinks we would hang curtains, lol
