These look delicious!!! I'm such a sucker for deep fried anything. I'm also vegetarian so these would be awesome.
Have you ever tried Japanese Inari? It is rice rolled in soybean curd wrappers. But they aren't dry and deep fried. They're moist and sweet. These made me think of it.
They're probably quite similar as these are also pretty moist and sweet. Can't imagine how difficult it used to be to make the wrappers back before they were mass produced. They use bean curd sheets now, I'll bet they're soybean. If you try them, let me know how it goes! We're going back to Malaysia in a month, so I'm hoping to have these again!
I might go look for these at our Asian supermarket this weekend. The ones for Inari are preshaped into pockets for rice so can't use those. I'll let you know how it goes!
